Want to innovate like NASA? Discover the mindset that led to a breakthrough.

What's more important: the collaborative mindset or collaboration skills? 🤔

Here's the thing. We intuitively know that collaboration is important. BUT, it's not enough to know.

Why? Because there's still:

➡️ silos (anyone face this?)

➡️ a lack of collaboration

A lack of collaboration is a mindset problem. 🧠 And, without a collaborative mindset, collaboration will never reach its fullest potential. 😔

How do I know this? I've seen it ALL over organizations. 👀 I've been part of those teams. I was one of the few people that crossed teams to open the way of collaboration, even in innovation organizations.

If innovation organizations, who knew about the power of collaboration in innovation, had these issues, then it had to be prevalent everywhere else.

Yesterday, I had the joy of being the keynote speaker for IDEA Mississauga's Step-Up Pitch & Showcase. 🎙️ Thank you to Alieu Jallow, PMP®, CSBS.D and Nicole Barker for bringing me in!

I spoke to city officials, startup founders and industry professionals about the collaborative mindset how they could leverage it to level up their innovative and creative skills. 🙌🏻

I was SO thrilled when multiple attendees stopped to speak with me after my talk:

🎤 "You're the best speaker I've heard all year and I've heard a LOT of speakers this year."

🎤 "Your talk deeply resonated with me."

🎤 "LOVED your talk."

One of my favourite collaboration examples is from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration. 🚀

In 2014, they were trying to figure out how to predict the onset, intensity and duration of solar flares.

They opened up this challenge to anyone in the world. 579 problem solvers from 53 countries submitted ideas. 💡

A man named Bruce Cragin, a retired radio frequency engineer solved their problem. He created a 24 hour forecast window, with 75% accuracy. His unique background allowed him to see the problem from his expertise and was able to solve NASA's challenge.

It was through collaboration that this happened. 🥳

I have a question for you: how collaborative are you? 🙋🏻‍♂️

What's your norm when it comes to problem solving?

Do you tend to go at it alone? Or do you collaborate with others?

Here's three tips to supercharge your collaborative mindset:

💫 1. Collaborate on everything, big and small. We have a tendency to save collaboration for just the big things. Don't make this mistake. Collaborate in the small details, too. Don't miss out on the power of collaboration in these everyday things.

💫 2. Diversify WHO you collaborate with. Don't just collaborate with people that look and think like you. Collaborate with people who are very different than you. Different types of thinkers. People who will challenge you. They'll give you insights you wouldn't consider.

💫 3. Remember the very famous words from Ken Blanchard, "No one of us is as smart as all of us." Seek to collaborate. Be intentional. Don't miss out.

How will you practice the collaborative mindset? Comment and share with me. ✍🏻
